The History Hub Community Ning is a year-round social network for Franklin's Opus Members, affiliated organizations and groups, and educational leaders.


What can I do here?

  • Spiff up your profile page: In the right navigation, click Settings and tell us about yourself, your work, and what you like to do. Most of all, have fun customizing your page!
  • Join a group: Looking for like-minded individuals? We have special interest groups, tools, and topics—there’s a group for every interest! 
  • Start or join a discussion: Ask a question, give advice, or leave a comment for a friend. 
  • Write a blog: Got a lot on your mind? Consider writing an ongoing blog and reading others’ posts and comments.

Who can be a member of the Franklin's Opus Community Ning?
This open community is for Franklin's Opus members and the wider educational community. It’s here to facilitate learning, networking, and sharing for anyone with an interest in history. Two heads are better than one, and we think the more heads, the better! Invite others to join the community or learn more about Franklin's Opus! 

What is an open community?
An open community is a diverse group of people, bonded by a common interest in an industry and/or an organization, who care enough to contribute and cooperate online for the good of the group.

Who can see my profile page?
History Hub Community is a public network. This means that unless you change your privacy settings, nonmembers can see your profile, read your posts, and view your videos and events. This makes the History Hub Community Ning an excellent place for online collaboration and open sharing. However, if you wish to make your profile or specific content visible only to “friends,” you can easily change your privacy settings. Click on the Settings link in the upper-right corner of the page. Once you’re there, click on Privacy, make your changes, and hit Save. 

How do I set email notifications?
You have complete control over what types of notifications you’d like to receive. To change your settings, follow the Settings link in the upper-right corner of the page. From the Settings page, click Email. You can control the types of messages you receive, the types of member activity you’re notified about, and the types of content you’re following. If you don’t want to receive any emails from the History Hub Community Ning, that’s fine too. You just may miss out on some juicy content! Click the box next to “I don’t want to receive emails from History Hub Community” and then hit the Save button. 

How do I add a discussion?
Click on the Forum tab on the navigation bar and click the Add link. Then just enter the title, body, and tags. You can also attach files to discussions and share them on Facebook.

How do I add a blog post?
Click on the Blogs tab on the navigation bar and click the Add link. Then just enter the title and body, adjust settings if needed, and click Publish Post. There are also Preview and Save as Draft options.

How do I follow a discussion or blog post?
If you want to receive email notifications when replies/comments are added to a discussion/blog post, simply open the discussion or blog post and click Follow directly under the reply/comment box.

How do I create a group?
Click on the Groups tab on the navigation bar and click the Add link. Then enter the information about the group and click Add Group. Our routine maintenance includes deleting inactive or duplicate groups, but we will notify you first if your group is in danger of being deleted.

Who can start a group or discussion?
Anyone with an interest in ed tech may create a group or start a discussion. However, we do not allow groups that exist for the sole purpose of a specific business or service. Read our Community Code

How do I upload video to my page?
Go to the Videos tab under Other on the navigation bar and click the Add link. Then just press the Click to Add Videos button to select which videos you’d like to upload from your computer. Ning accepts the following file types: .mov, .mp4, .mpeg, .avi, .wmv, .3gp, .3g2. You can also embed videos from YouTube, Hulu, Vimeo, and other services.

How do I upload a photo to my page?
Go to the Photos tab under Other on the navigation bar and click the Add link. Then just press the Click to Add Photos button to select which photos you’d like to upload from your computer. Ning accepts the following file types: .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp.

How do I find other members on the Ning?
Click the Members tab on the navigation bar. From this page, you can sort by Recently Added, Alphabetical, or Random to see people on the social network. You can also search for specific people by name or find members with certain interests using the Advanced Search function. You can add people as friends, send messages, and add comments to their pages from here. 

What if I can’t find my friends?
They may not be a member of the Ning yet. Invite them

How do I accept a friend request?
Click Friends (link under your name that appears on the righthand side of any page once you’re signed in). Click Requests Received. Then click the red Accept button under the requester in question.

If I have a technical problem, where can I find help?
Ask Franklin's Opus by commenting on her profile page or sending her a message.
